TRIPLE MOON DOULAS:
PROFESSIONAL LABOR SUPPORT

Serving the Portland, Oregon Metro Area

Helping to empower women throughout pregnancy and childbirth using education, aromatherapy, pressure points, guided relaxation, information and an endless supply of compassion.

A Doula's Role

Whether this is your first child or your fifth, a doula can help make your birth the experience you want it to be.  ‘Doula’ is a Greek word used to describe the main female attendant of a household.  Today, a doula is a trained and experienced childbirth assistant.  Not medically licensed, doulas do not replace nurses or other medical personnel; they rather enhance communication between everyone involved and focus almost exclusively on helping the mother.  Nurses must often attend to the needs of multiple patients, and are therefore unable to give you constant support.  They are also usually unable to stay throughout your labor, so you may meet a new care-person at every shift change.  A professional doula will support you and your birth partner throughout your entire labor and delivery.

Our Philosophy on Labor and Childbirth

We believe that you as the mother deserve to be supported in whatever setting you choose, be it a hospital, at home, or in a birthing center.  It is our stance that birth can be a beautiful, empowering experience regardless of the location or technology involved.

As your doulas, we will attend to your every physical and emotional need during and directly after labor and childbirth, remaining constantly by your side. This benefits the father/birth partner as well, allowing them to join in at their own pace in a potentially days-long experience, rather than being the sole supporter.
We use massage, aromatherapy, pressure points, guided relaxation, breathing techniques, and whatever else you need to help you through labor. If necessary, we also act as a liaison between the midwife or physician and the parents, helping you to get the information that you need to allow you to make your own choices. If you have any questions about the process, would like to schedule a free consultation or would like more information, please call/email us.

Our Training

To become doulas, we enrolled in the Labor Doula program at Birthingway College of Midwifery here in Portland. Birthingway is a well-respected school, with high standards in education and a progressive birthing philosophy.  Our training involved both the scientific and physical aspects of birthing as well as empathy and mediation, with plenty of information about current techniques used.
